Why Zanzibar

More than a beach at the end of safari.

Zanzibar combines warm tropical water and pale beaches with a remarkably layered cultural landscape. Stone Town carries centuries of Swahili, Arab, Indian, African and European influence, while the island interior is still associated with the cloves and spices that helped shape its identity.

For Legacy, the right Zanzibar stay begins with the atmosphere you want: heritage and food in Stone Town, quiet beach time, active watersports, reef experiences, conservation-led islands or a combination. We connect those pieces privately and at an unhurried pace.

Things to do

Island days with more depth.

Marine, cultural, culinary and nature experiences can be added privately around your beach stay.

Culture, heritage & spice

The island has always been a meeting place.

Stone Town’s narrow lanes, seafront, markets, religious buildings and historic residences reflect the many cultures that met along the Swahili Coast. A thoughtful private walk gives context to the architecture and to the island’s complex trading history.

Beyond town, spice farms offer a sensory introduction to cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and tropical fruits. We favour experiences that feel personal and informative rather than rushed, leaving time for conversation and local food.

When to go

Warm year-round, with seasons that shape the sea.

June to October is generally dry and comfortable, while January and February are also popular for warm beach weather. Conditions for diving, snorkelling and watersports vary by coast, wind and tide, so we match the activity and beach area to your dates.

Getting there & around

From safari airstrip to the Indian Ocean.

Abeid Amani Karume International Airport connects Zanzibar with mainland Tanzania and regional and international gateways. Safari flights can make the transition from bush to beach especially smooth.

On the island, Legacy arranges private airport, Stone Town and beach transfers. Driving time depends on the coast, and tides matter for some east-coast swimming and marine activities — details we build into the itinerary before you arrive.
