Why Nyerere

Nyerere is one of the signature wilderness areas of Tanzania’s southern circuit. Broad floodplains, woodland, lakes and channels around the Rufiji create a varied safari landscape where wildlife viewing can unfold from both land and water.

When to go

Choose timing around the experience.

The dry season from June to October is the classic period for Nyerere, with easier roads and wildlife drawn toward permanent water. Green months bring dramatic skies, richer colour and strong birdlife, with a more seasonal operating pattern at some camps.

Getting there

Fly south and arrive close to the wilderness.

Nyerere is commonly reached by light aircraft from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar or other safari areas. Flying keeps travel time efficient and allows the safari to begin soon after arrival.

We often pair Nyerere with Ruaha for a deeper southern circuit or with Zanzibar for an easy bush-and-beach journey.
