Why Katavi

For travellers who want to go farther.

Katavi is about scale, distance and a profound sense of wilderness. Seasonal rivers and floodplains draw wildlife into increasingly concentrated areas as the dry season progresses.

Legacy recommends Katavi for travellers who have already experienced more classic safari regions or who specifically want remoteness to be part of the journey. The reward is not speed or variety of destinations, but immersion.

Getting there

Remote by design.

Katavi is primarily a fly-in destination. Light-aircraft connections are the practical way to include it in a high-end Tanzania itinerary.

It pairs especially well with Mahale for a rare western wilderness journey combining classic safari with Lake Tanganyika and chimpanzee country.
